I have recently started shooting with Compact Flash memory cards again. I had two readers-one CF only and one combination. When I started shooting large capacity/high speed SD cards, I went with a Lexar Professional SD-only reader. What I noticed when I got a more modern CF card for the newer camera was that the bigger files loaded s l o w l y. So, I did some research and called on my experience with Lexar and chose this one. I noticed immediately that it was a beefy item. That has nothing to do with function, but as other reviewers have mentioned, it stays put while in use. What it does do is load the files onto the computer MUCH faster than the older readers. To date, I’ve had no issues with file corruption. Overall, I’m very happy with this reader, and would readily recommend it and buy it again.

Tested it on three cards: Lexar 128GB UHS-II (250MB/S), Sandisk 64GB UHS-I (170MB/S) and Samsung microSD 128GB (90MB/S). All gave consistent results. Performance wise it is a solid UHS-II reader so far.

There is an LED light that should remain blue, and it will turn red after it’s safely ejected so you can unplug it. This is a nice feature.

During my more than 20 years in photography I have owned several card readers but this one is my favorite , very fast, good quality and easy to use, plug and play.

My draw has about 3 other usb card readers that have stopped working on some level, even the reader on the back of my iMac doesn’t work. This reader seems to be great quality and it’s fast. I think it’s worth paying the price of a pizza for a quality card reader that’s going to work when I need it.

Just added a Windows 10 computer to the office, and as is common, there was no card reader in the machine.

Added this Lexar reader without any more trouble than plugging it into an USB 3 slot.. Worked immediately, quickly, and perfectly on SDHC and micro-SD cards. Haven’t tried CF yet.

The LED indicator flashes blue when reading and red when not reading or ejected. So far, this is the best card reader I’ve ever used. It’s easy to use, looks cool, no negatives whatsoever.

Every other card reader on Amazon will list it’s read/write speeds as “Fast” or “Very Fast” but won’t go into detail about how fast. Spoiler: all of those readers top out around 80-90 MB/s. This one lists it’s read/write speeds, and I have no issues importing my 250 MB/s sd cards into my computer at the card’s listed speeds. I’m often importing video files of 50-200 GB onto my Mac, and this reader speeds the process up considerably and has the correct USB-C connector for my laptop.

The description said “Transfer speeds of up to 312MB/s for SD and microSD UHS-II cards, and up to 160MB/s for CF cards” but sadly the performance falls quite far below that!

i tested with 2 UHS-ii (TEAMGROUP XTREEM UHS-II SD and prograde UHS-II 128GB microsd) and both just yielded a bit over 40MB/s copying speed. i purchased a lention uhs-ii card reader later also from amazon and it unlocks the performance of the UHS-ii card, giving almost 300MB/s in sequential reading test.

even for the low price, I’d suggest to avoid this reader if you need uhs-ii speed.

It works fast Transfers 64G in minutes and easy to slip card in and out of the reader! My old Lexar usb2 card reader still works so I can expect this USB3 card reader to last for years… cable is long enough for desktop or laptops. I would recommend.

I had the ProGrade dual CFexpress and SDXC card reader and wanted a backup and bought this less expensive reader from Lexar. It turned out to be a mistake.

The ProGrade works with SDXC and CFexpress cards
The ProGrade is 11% faster with file transfers and writes to a CFexpress card
The Prograde has a magnetic base so it can be attached to the side of workstation

The ProGrade costs $20 more but based on the three areas mentioned I decided to buy another ProGrade reader and return the Lexar CFexpress reader.

Both companies use plastic shell for these devices and 93% of plastic is never recycled in the USA and the types used are known to cause birth defects and reduced sterility – no big deal for me but definitely for tomorrow’s children and their parents.

Long story short..I was surprised this Lexar reader has a nice weight to it vs all those cheapie readers that are available. Has a rubber gasket on the bottom that helps keep the reader in place in a desk etc. Read speeds seem very fast, but I didn’t do any OFFICIAL speed test, just it reads my sd cards faster than any other USB 3 readers I have owned prior. Seems VERY well made, I was surprised at the quality and build of this reader..

Needs a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2X2 port on the PC and a cable that supports “2×2” to get the 20Gbps (I used Akasa products) and not 10Gbps as per 3.2 Gen 2 port/cables deliver.

I originally ordered one of these a few months ago, but had issues with it that required a warranty return. Upon getting the second unit, I still had issues with this device. I was really hopeful, as the form factor is nearly perfect for a card reader (sits nicely on the desk and blends into its surroundings). However, I could not get it to consistently to work with my high-end Lexar SD cards (300 MB/s). It would work with my slower cards, micro SD cards, and older CF cards, but would not work with the newer ones (which is the reason I bought it to get the USB 3.1 speeds). If this issue were to get resolved, I would totally purchase one again. But for now, back it goes.

I just bought a semi-pro 4K camcorder and common advice is not to use the camcorder as the transfer device. It’s better all around to take out the cards and use a USB transfer device. 4K generates very large files, e.g. 10 minutes of footage uses 5 GB. I plan to be doing a lot more than 10 minutes per shooting session.

    Results: The cards are Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 256GB – spec’d V30 U3 Class 10 170 MB/s transfer speed.
On a drag & drop to my hard drive using this Lexar Reader in a USB 3.0 port in my desktop PC I achieved 166 MB/s indicated with a drag & drop of the 12 files making up 5 GB. Time 33 seconds. So the reader is essentially allowing the maximum transfer speed the cards are rated for. That satisfies me entirely, removing a production bottleneck.

Compare to other methods, same card with the same data:
Direct USB cable from camcorder to computer: 2m57s
Old no name USB card reader: 10m11s

Consumer camcorder Canon VIxia HF R50 w ~5 year old Lexar SD Class 4 32GB card – 763MB of video in 3 files
Direct USB cable from camcorder to computer: 1m03s
    No name reader: 0m40s *
    Lexar reader: 0m34s *
    * I am guessing this was the card speed maxed out. Drag & Drop indicated on both was 22 MB/s so the Lexar can’t improve on an ancient no name SD reader.
