    UPDATED REVIEW:

Wonnie kindly sent me a replacement player and so far so good. I have not as of yet had any of the issues that I had with the previous player, although I have just started using this one. I’ll update if things change.

    INFO ON THE PLAYER:

This is a solid workhorse player. Not many frills, but it works well and has subtitles and that’s basically all I need. I don’t love that it powers down after about 3 minutes, meaning that you can’t pause for a bathroom or snack break and just unpause when you’re ready—you need to power the player back on after 3-5 minutes. This is probably better for the discs though, so it’s not a huge deal. And the player does have a memory function so it can power on to right where you left off if that’s what you want. You can also disable this “sleep” function completely, I believe—I just wish they had an option for a 15 minute wait before powering down rather than only the 3-5 minutes or disabled altogether options.

I haven’t yet experienced the freezing issue on this replacement player, and I really hope I never do because this is a really solid little player for the price!

    OLD REVIEW:
This DVD/Blu-Ray player was a little cheap in feel and design, but worked fine…at first.

Now that the return period has expired, the player will get stuck while trying to shut off.

When completing the shut off process, the little red “off” indicator light should come on. Instead, the shut off process freezes, and the player gets stuck with the green “off” letters stuck on the display, and the unit continues to be hot, indicating that it is still drawing power.

This wouldn’t be a huge deal if you could easily get it unstuck, say by powering on and off again, or ejecting the disc, but you can’t. The only way to unfreeze it when it gets stuck while powering down is to unplug it and plug it back in. This is terribly inconvenient and I’ve already suffered an electrical shock while doing so.

There are other issues too, like not being able to access the player settings menu while a disc is in the player. Some player menus work, but others are inaccessible unless you remove the disc from the player and close the drive. Only them are you able to adjust all player settings.

To add insult to injury, when I power the player on now, the display spells out “dud” before loading the disc. Yeah, I already know that this player is a complete dud. No need to rub it in my face!

Steer clear of this piece of junk! If I could return it, I would!!!

Ordered this combination DVD/Blu-ray player after our old DVD player stopped working. It was amazingly simple to set up–plug in the HDMI cable from player to TV, plug it the power, and you’re good! Also easy to use remote and main menu functions. Haven’t tried a different display while the current disc is playing, currently it shows the elapsed play time. Great for its purpose, and the Wonnie customer service team outreached to be sure there were no issues with the player (which there were none, but they seemed highly available if needed for any issues unlike other companies based outside the U.S.). Would definitely recommend!

I bought this player to use with my 49″ Roku TV in the back bedroom, since I had some PAL DVDs that I obviously couldn’t play on a regular US player.

    The good news:
    – It played a PAL DVD without any issue.
    – It played some NTSC DVDs that had been unplayable on other players due to manufacturing flaws.

    The bad news:
    – Some of the buttons on the remote control would activate functions on the Roku TV while also activating their correct functions on the Wonnie Blu-Ray player. This included one button on the remote that, when pressed two or three times in a row, would cause the TV to shut down.
    – Numerous times, when it wasn’t actively playing a movie, the player would lock up. The LEDs would still indicate power, but nothing on the remote nor on the front of the machine (including the power button) would help. I had to physically disconnect and reconnect the power cord from/to the wall outlet.

I’m giving it two stars because it was indeed playing discs from different regions without issue, but obviously, the shortcomings were far too significant to overlook. The player is now on its way back to Amazon.

Bought this for my 89 year old neighbor, and she loves it! the RCA jacks tie directly into her bluetooth transmitter for her hearing aids, and the screens are easy to navigate on this player. One feature she really loves is: when she turns the player off while watching a DVD, it gives her the option to pick up where she left off, or play from the beginning whenever she resumes watching. The HDMI works perfectly with her modern UHD television, and from the TV menu she can quickly navigate to the Blu-Ray DVD Player using the “source” button. She is very thrilled! It took less than five minutes to hook up to her TV and now I have time to start working on her landscape lights.

The media could not be loaded.

I needed an extra Blu-ray player for my toddlers room so she could watch DVDs while hubby and I watched something that’s not a cartoon. It was incredibly easy to set up, it came with all the cords and even batteries for the remote! It took maybe 2 minutes to set everything up. The only thing I would like to be different would be for the cord to be longer. After set up all I had to do was put in the Blu-ray and it was go time! The remote is easy to use and the picture is great! I would definitely recommend this item to anyone that needs one, and a great price at that!!! 5 Stars in all categories!

My wife and I check out about 2 movies a week from the local library. They have about 3000 movies, including foreign titles. Our library also has a loan network partnership with several other villages’ libraries, so the titles actually available go thousands more. I have been playing movies from the library for 20 years with no problems and various DVD players, including Sony.
They will not play in this machine. It throws up a warning flag and the sound goes dead. This is ridiculous. All the thousands of titles at the library are pirated titles?? These manufacturers pay Cinavia for the security setup on their DVD players. Sony is foremost among them all and evidently so is this manufacturer.
This thing is useless to me, and with winter coming, my wife and I enjoy a movie in the evening. But not with this DVD player! Back it goes to Amazon in spades.
