This air conditioner has cons. If you plan to put this on a floor high above the ground, you may want to make sure your window frame will fit in the gaps in order to secure it inside your house. None of the screw holes even line up with the frame nor the sash screw hole (top middle.) The sash does not go all the way down, so it’s only being held, all 62 lb, by about 1.5cm of the top bracket if you will. Plan on buying a outside brace to support it. I’m highly dissatisfied with this. I paid for something that let me down.. and amazon did not help me fix this, instead offered to have me return it. I CAN NOT LIFT IT TO RETURN! it was a pain just to get it upstairs. No way am I going to go through the hassle of taking it to UPS plus not to mention paying for shipping and handling on my own. I just wanted them to accommodate me and send me a brace for the outside. Nope! So I bought the brace myself.. now I will find another company to buy expensive products for, or just read more reviews beforehand. I needed a a.c fast. So I’m partially at fault.. although the how to video seemed pretty easy. Not easy to install if you are high up and it doesn’t fit with your window. I’m worried about my 4 yr old pushing it out or maybe having it even fall on someone’s head since it’s directly above my main entrance. I had to search my house quickly in the moments after putting it in and not having it secured, hoping it didn’t fall out and break, to find a sturdy object long enough to prop btwn the top of the window frame and the lower window where the locks are just to make sure there’s no give until the brace comes in the mail. I’m very unhappy with the outcome. Invest in portable if you’re concerned! I should’ve! Now.. the pros. It is very quiet like it says. Also cools the room very quickly which is a pretty large room to begin with. Plus exceeds the standards in energy efficiency. The remote works from far away.

I bought this unit based on the pictures in the listing – I thought I was getting a rectangular unit measuring 13.97″ high by 22.9″ wide and 13.81″ deep, which is what is still advertised in the listing today (see attached picture pulled straight from the listing. I needed a shallow depth unit because of the cage that’s pre-installed in the window it was destined for, so I specifically sought out units that would be shallow enough and this one was advertised as being such (and the only inverter unit that fit), so I was excited to use the space in an efficient way. To my great disappointment, the actual unit arrived and was almost double the depth, coming in at 22-23″ deep, making it unsuitable for the space I had.

Putting aside my unique issue (most don’t have a max depth for a window AC install), the second issue is the bracket and panel wings that fold out to cover the window gap are not just “pre-assembled” as the description suggests – that to me would indicate that they’ve assembled it for you, but that there’s a possibility of disassembly given that the first picture in the listing shows it with absolutely no hardware attached. That is very much not the case – the arms are welded on and painted, so there is no way short of taking an angle grinder to this thing that you’d ever be able to use anything other than the pre-supplied panels (which are always garbage and I toss, replacing with plexiglass panels cut to size or a higher grade insulation and wood paneling). That may prove to be a dealbreaker for folks that wish to do a better looking custom install with this unit. It’s also not rectangular, the bottom is bizarrely uneven (the right hand side is nearly flush, while the left side has a huge cutout more than an inch up).

Not a negative because it wasn’t advertised as having it, but at this price point and for a brand new 2022 model, it seems like an odd decision that they did not include any kind of smart functionality or WiFi support, this is a purely dumb unit

Now to the good – while I was never able to use mine because of the unfixable issues above, this unit is rated the most efficient window AC on the market in 2022, so that’s great. The upward pointing louver is also a nice design that will hopefully catch on with more units, because diffusing the cold air rather than blasting straight at you makes for a more pleasant and gently moderated room temperature.

For the nearly $500 they’re asking for the Dreo today, you have significantly better options out there – if your window type supports it, the Midea U Inverter units are better in every way and substantially cheaper (around $350 today for the 8,000 BTU equivalent model), just as quiet and efficient – plus, they have smart functionality and can be integrated with HomeKit using the homebridge-midea-air plugin and you can see through your window rather than blocking it with the ugly white panels and drilling into the top sash. I love seeing innovation and new options on the market for inverter ACs, but Dreo needs to comb through this listing and remove all the inaccurate information before they wind up with a bunch of returned units!

I came across this unit on BHG, but before I placed the order I also considered media U and LG 9500, but in comparison, dreo is my top pick as it’s much easier to install and use.

    The Good:
    – Quiet: 42db is the same as media U’s noise level and better than LG (44 db) 9500, I did see some reviews that the LG one is wildly noisy.
    – Installation: They did a good job by designing with less. Brackets and most parts are already installed so no need to assemble the unit piece by piece. Took me only dozens of minutes to get everything done. No pain, dreo win

    – Energy saving: there aren’t details about the energy star rating on LG’s and media U’s pages, but I did find their energy star labels from the reviews. The estimated yearly energy cost for Media U is $47, LG 9500 is $68, but this Dreo arctic one is $41.

    – Friendly customer service. I’ve been asking about this ac as I wasn’t sure if it fit my window and the agents were kind and professional. I lost my remote by accident and they sent me another one, all at their cost.

    The Bad:
    – This thing ain’t cheap. But considering more energy saving (which means you can save more on bills every month!) and easier installation, I think it’s worth buying if they offer it at a reduced price or with a coupon.
    – Some gaps in the brackets and window sashes after installing as directed. Good thing they sent plasticine and foam seals.

Overall, I was hesitant before purchase because it’s a brand new ac with very few reviews but thankfully it’s performing perfectly so far in my room. This amazing beast just saved my summer.
