Recomendable

I bought this for my almost two year old who is about thirty pounds. The fit is fine. It’s my fault really, I should have paid better attention but it doesn’t work well as a swimming vest. He ends up rolled to the front face down in the water, not held upright as my other son gets from his swimming vest. Looking closer my other swimming vest has extra padding up around the neck and shoulders to help keep them upright which this does not have. Also it would be nice if it had a handle at the top as our other one does which is much easier for pulling them out of the water. Somewhat functional I guess but I am going to have to purchase a different one so it’s a fail for me.

I read through countless reviews for child safety vests. I thought this had the better reviews and went with it. Unfortunately, the first time my 3 year old son used in it in a lake up in northern Minnesota it failed. My biggest fear was getting a vest in where the child ends up belly/face first in the water and this is exactly what happened. He was playing on a lake lily pad when he slipped off the side, and in he went. Instead of coming up floating. He was face down in the lake. No more wearing this vest!!

We got this one and a different jacket to compare. This one is the winner as it expands on the sides. I was worried my grandson would cry putting it on, but while he didn’t LOVE it the first time, he willingly put it on. Now he gets excited when he sees it and says “boat, boat, boat” lol. I bought the youth sized for the older grandkids and all fit great and doesn’t bother the kids wearing them.

My 2 Year Old weighs 30 lbs and is 39 inches tall so we had a dilemma getting him a life vest. He obviously can’t swim yet. Positive is that this vest fits well and keeps my child afloat but huge negative is that it doesn’t flip him over onto his back. Keeps him on his face. I don’t like this about this vest. I wish it rolled him into his back. He’s above the weight limit for the infant vests and some of the reviews for this vest said it rolls them onto their back. IT DOES NOT.

Perfect. It worked great for my 4.5 year old. He had always been in the 50th percentile for height and weight… so it works well for the most average 4.5 year old boy.
An update: I have to down grade it. My son was wearing this and playing in shallow water in a calm bay. He fell down and the vest was fighting against him. It kept flipping him on his face…. so I cannot say I would recommend it.

Worked perfectly the first three or four times in the pool. Then all of a sudden my child started sinking. Thankfully my daughter noticed it or it could have been tragic! So scary!!!!! I want to warn other parents.

This was for my grandson, who is 2-1/2 years old and weighs 32 pounds. (Grandma tip: At first he was reluctant to put it on, so rather than calling it a life vest, it became the “magical floaty”.) I give it 5 stars and an enthusiastic thumbs up.
PROS: 1) Quality design and construction. 2) Excellent fit, with adjustable straps allowing accommodation for the weight and size differential. 3) The “undercarriage” strap ensures the life vest doesn’t ride up around the child’s neck and head. 4) It is substantial without being bulky. It actually looks good! Go figure….
CONS: 1) A nice to have would be an open strap sewn on the back like a handle (like they make for dog life vests, but not an actual handle and that lies flat), which allows an adult to easily hold onto a squirmy child who wants to get as far over the edge of a speeding boat as possible. 2) It fit a 32-pounder so perfectly, and the straps even had to be let out a little–I have some doubts if it would fit a youth as large as 49 or 50 pounds. As the tyke grows, I’ll report back. 😉

If I could give a negative star rating I WOULD!! This life jacket is NOT safe. We just got a new pool and we double checked that everything was secured with the life vest. We got into the pool. Normally I hold him when we are in the pool, but he wanted to hold onto the side to kick so I let him and stood behind him. When my daughter was yelling for me to pass her the floatie next to me I did and then turned back to my son. When I looked, he was being held under the water by this life jacket. He wasn’t able to roll himself so his face was out of the water. We NEVER had this problem with our old life jacket. It scared me so bad that in the 5 seconds I gave my attention to my daughter, my son’s face was being held under the water due to the life jacket. I went out and bought another life jacket at Target that night and he isn’t having any problems with it, it keeps his face OUT of the water like it is supposed to!
