This lantern is smaller than I thought it would be, since I only had the big propane lanterns before but after I used it I don’t think I needed anything bigger. VERY BRIGHT on High, I mean VERY BRIGHT!! WOW!! Low is really all you need so the battery life will last 70 hours that’s great if you think about it. Now the top and lens is plastic which I wish the top was metal and the lens was glass but for less than $20 I think is a great deal!

We got this lantern when there was a big storm on the way, and we were sure we’d lose power. Well, the storm passed by, but we turned out the lights and still had fun “camping out” in the living room! We still keep it there, at the ready for more bad weather or family fun! Definitely recommended.

I don’t think that you can have too many of these. They are perfect for a camping, hiking, under-the-sink repairs, need to go to the shed at night…power-outages, or just porch-sitting. These lanterns have both a high & a low setting to accommodate whatever light is needed. They are super-durable both outdoors & inside. I received my first Coleman lantern as a gift from my sister, who had one on her porch, that I admired. This lantern has been through multiple power-outages, many campfires, small-space repairs, searching for small creatures at night-time & so much more. It hasn’t once let me down!

This is a fine lamp, styled to be a lantern. The low setting is nice if you just need a little light and the high setting is bright enough to sufficiently light a room. It is about the size of a 1/2 gallon milk jug. The handle breaks apart so it can be easily hung of something.

It is plastic, not metal. Seems durable enough, however, don’t expect a “buy it for life” quality level here. Probably will sustain a fall of a few feet like getting knocked off a table. But, really if it breaks, for the price point, no big deal.

I bought a “warehouse” version for about $10 less then the price for a new product. It was supposedly damaged but we lantern I received was like new.

There are other lantern style lights out there for more money that don’t have as nice of a “look and feel” as this one. If you need more functionality (lumens, various setting, rechargeable unit, etc.) or something more durable look into a different maker/model. If you just need something that looks nice on the picnic bench or for use in case of emergency, this will do you just fine.

Got this as a gift for my 56th Bday from someone who knew I had downsized ,but in case of emegency I was still using Candles & I live in Loft apt made of Wood & wood beams,. Krazi I know but luckily my friend realized the threat with climate changes and more rough weather in the Northeast region why take the chance so he sent me the lantern complete with Amazon batteries. He also sent a small Midland ER10VP weather Radio Something you night need if the weather & cell towers/Grid snap at the same time. Smart Friend I have always has a backup plan..

This thing appears to be fairly well made. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that it is made in China, but I was hoping that an iconic American company like Coleman would be making their products in the U.S.A. As far as I know, Coleman hasn’t sold their brand, so I guess they make more profit by building their stuff in China. Too bad.

Appears to be well made. The 2 levels of brightness are quite useful.
Batteries are NOT included – It takes 4 D size.
The battery compartment is a screw-on type, and it’s sufficiently well made and sturdy to ensure a reliable contact with the batteries. No flickering when the lamp is moved or bumped.

I live in Houston where when it rains everything goes out. During the February freeze we had no electricity for 8 days and this is my second lantern and it lit up the house. my entire family has these lanterns as the weather is always bad which means electricity always goes out even if it is not raining. This is worth every penny, this is my 4th Coleman lantern. It has helped us out, through hurricanes and winter storms.

When my Coleman lantern came it had the front of the globe scratched up. Called customer service and explained the issue and immediately set up a for returning product the following day and reissued another Lantern which I received in a few days very efficient and helpful customer service at Amazon now I have my Lantern, the rechargeable batteries worked perfectly and having low and high settings light was good on both settings. Thank you Amazon Customer Service

I’ve had this lantern for a year now – a year of camps, of power-cuts, of use on the nightstand when I’m too sick/lazy to get out of bed to reach the light switch – & it’s fantastic.
Low battery consumption, great lambency, flawlessly reliable, surprisingly rugged, & it looks very attractive, too.
This one was a terrific buy, I love it.

Our winter weather involves losing electricity at our stables. I bought three of these to use during those times; one in the feed room, one in the breezeway, and one in the hay storage. They give good light, hang easily from the hooks we put in those areas, no open flame like our old Coleman lanterns, and the horses get fed in stormy weather, without carrying feed in one hand and a flashlight in the other. And that is all that counts. Full bellies on cold miserable winter nights.

Update (April 4, 2017): These are so handy at the stables that I just bought two more to keep at home in the kitchen for power failures. Seriously, how can two people who are so prepared for everything not have one working flashlight in the whole house? When the two new ones arrive, they are sitting on top of the fridge until I need them, despite the number of batteries my husband buys and puts in all of our dead flashlights. LOL
