Like most of you I did research and read the reviews. It has a lot of positives and the negatives seem to focus on the line.I thought oh it cant be that bad.I was wrong.
Pros: Great concept, I love the shield with the wheels. It really helps to go straight along the edge.
Cons: The line. I should have known ths wasnt going to work 3 mins into cutting when I have to turn it upside down and figure out how to get more line. Then two mins later, all the line that I just got out broke off, all of it. Then its taking the bottom plate off, when you pull the spool all the line come unwound and you have real mess.
I try not to say negative things butI couldnt return this thing fast enough. Sure someone said you can replace the line with so Dewalt sting and it works better. Also its not that expensive so its not a huge investment. However those things to me do not outweigh having a tool that can do its job properly out of the box. I am sure if they had provided some better cutting line instead of the dental floss like sting that came with it, myself and a lot of other who posted negative reviews would be singing a different story.

This is a good trimmer. It cuts well and I really like the vertical, rotation feature to allow you to get a nice clean line at the edge of your lawn. However, one MAJOR complaint. It is designed to automatically release some of the plastic twine periodically. This is pitched as a nice feature since it is supposed to detect when the twine is short and lengthen it as needed, as it naturally gets cut due to hitting rocks, etc. However, it releases twine needlessly every few minutes, instead of as needed. The excess gets cropped off by the spinner when it is too long. At the end of the season I can find dozens of one inch lengths of twine all over my garden from this thing – all the same length. More importantly, this means you use up spools of their proprietary twine extremely quickly. Since I bought the trimmer 3 years ago, I’ve gone through an incredible 10 spools of twine! At this point I’m convinced that it is deliberately designed this way to sell spools of twine, like Gillette’s razor / razor blade business model. I originally bought the product for $54, cheap, right? I’ve now spent $68.65 on spools of twine for this thing, and I’m still going strong! I see that the trimmer now sells for $41.65. All the more enticing to get customers on the Greenworks train and hooked forever! It’s a dirty trick and extremely annoying.

I don’t understand the negative reviews on this product. The first one I purchased locally was stolen along with all my lawn equipment. When I went to my local building supply to reorder the same one, the price had quadrupled. So I held off until I was lucky enough to land the identical model in Amazon Marketplace. It was in a plain jane brown box without all the fancy pictures, but it was brand new and the exact model. The people complaining about them eating all the line, that is because they are pressing and releasing the switch on and off on and off. Every time they do that, it activates the auto feed feature. I depress the switch and keep the unit continuously running without letting off until the line gets small. It makes all the difference in the world, and you don’t have all those pieces of plastic line all over the sidewalk and yard. Keep it running and it won’t feed unnecessary line. This model has 5X the power of my single line Black&Decker that lasted nearly 30years. It also cuts my time to finish my entire yard to a fraction of the time it used to take. My only gripe is the customer service from Greenworks. It takes 3 months from them to get back to you since the covid19 thing, then they don’t answer your question. I needed to know if the serial number of the product was on the box for my local police department and it took 90 days for them to email me and they never answered my question. Just be sure to record your serial number when your unit arrives and put it in a safe place. This is a fine machine and “my unit” does NOT waste trimmer line.

Let me start by saying I’m not a lawn guy. I’m not trying to have the best-looking lawn on the block. That being said. I love this Greenworks 5.5 Amp Electric Corded edger. It was way easy to unbox and put together. Super lightweight at open, I was using it to cut my grass. It was so lightweight and maneuverable. Changing from a Weed Wacker to an edger was as simple as pressing a button. With the wheels on the back, it makes edging so easy. The funny part i was going to give this to my brother, but he will get my 2-year-old Toro Weed wacker. I am in love with this little guy. I moved around the fence with ease, making a nice deep-strength edge along the walkway and fence line. I had a few hiccups with the spool, but that’s was a user error. It comes with an extra spool and cover. So you don’t need to buy an extra one as I did. I can say how it works on big yards, but my little yard got dominated by this tool, and the grass was a little wet too.

this is a hard working trimmer. the most important thing for me was finding the right string bc being new at this yard work thing I tend to hit the curb or side walk or concrete quite a bit. after i used up the included spools i looked around and read lots of reviews on the string needed for this trimmer. Lots of people writing reviews focused on the string diameter can no exceed .065. So silly me listened to those crazies for the most part. I bought a roll of rino-tuff string that functioned as expected in 2019. Now in to 2020 i started yard work again and man that rino-tuff broke so much i had to stop what i was doing. then i realized the sting must have deteriorated from 2019. Ugh. So just for kicks i bought Shakespeare ugly line but in .080 diameter. I figured if it did not fit i would drill out as necessary. boy am i glad i stepped outside the box. it fit just fine and is pretty durable. my yard is about 135 ft wide and i have only had to advance the string a little tiny bit. Love that Ugly Line.
