I read all of the reviews before buying this one. I had multiple strokes a few years back and my garden was so neglected and clayed up I was ready to give this beauty a try. For its price it is truly amazing. Easy to put together and use. Instructions were simple have taken at least 2 to 3 days to do what this beauty did today. . My husband and a friend of ours used it to dig up , break down, added peat moss , black earth, tilled it until the earth was workable. This machine tore through the roots , chopped them to pieces and overall did what it was supposed to do. I would recommend this to anyone who has trouble digging clay soil. Helps if you have already turned the soil a bit. Use the reverse to break up the broken down soil. Make sure to clear all the muck it picks up. Ensure you have removed stones and other heavy items in the garden bed before using. Will DD TO THIS REVIEW A FEW MONTHS FROM NOW. It was delivered on time, and I just love it. I have not used it but supervising the new beds being created. good luck all and hope you have lots of fun like we did

This rototiller is absolutely perfect for me. It just digs up a storm so I got a good sized chore done with it in less than an hour. I’m a 69 yr old female who’s just starting in on my yard maintenance & planting new shrubs & trees in my yard at the very first (& likely the last) house I’ve ever purchased on my own. I have a number of debilitating illnesses to slow me down, but thanks to this powerful little tiller & a great electric lawn mower, I’m still capable of tending to my own home & yard maintenance all by myself. It’ll probably take me all summer to finish everything I want to do, but now that I’ve got this great little tiller, I’m quite hopeful I can do the Tasmanian (“Taz”) devil dance all over my yard & lawn. It’s not too big or heavy for me (I’m 5’5″ tall & 168 lbs) & I’ve had no trouble with it getting away from me, nor have I been concerned about getting hurt, as it’s very easy to adjust up & down in blade height for desired depth of the dig, & easy to control. All you need is a firm grip & being careful. It literally saved me many weeks of hand digging to reach my goal. In only one hour I dug up around two trees & several bushes to aerate the soil & put a closed circle of dirt around them, making it easier for watering & holding just the right amount of water for each one,..saving on water bills. I’ve got six trees I’ll be planting in my yard over the next couple of days, that I could not have done at all without this tiller. I’m very happy with it, & highly recommend this particular one to anyone, semi-disabled or not. Yes, I would definitely buy this again. 🙂 jlp

This could have been a 4 or even 5 star review. The tiller works well but it came missing a nut to attach the tines to the shaft. The experience dealing with customer service is frustrating and somewhat disconnected.

I assembled the handle on to the tool fairly quickly and easily. I registered it online including all my contact information and address, and was happy to hear that by doing so, my 2 yr warranty would be extended 90 days. This all seems great.

I noticed a loose bolt in the box and realized that one rotating tine was not attached and the nut to hold the bolt in place was not included. I contacted customer support immediately with a detailed message describing the problem and included the serial number. The next day a mostly scripted response came back saying that I need to register my product and now this ticket is considered closed. And… “We hope your request (575366) has been solved and you are happy.” ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

I replied saying I don’t want the ticket closed, I want my missing part. The next reply was less frustrating but still annoying, asking for my address….WHICH I JUST FINISHED PROVIDING!!

Sunjoe needs to better train their customer support staff or come up with a better system

Let’s see what happens, if I get the right part in a timely fashion. The tool is a garden tiller and it’s time to till and plant now. If I don’t see the part in time I may just decide to return the entire tool.

     Background:
Let me start by stating I have never used a roto-tiller before so I do not have anything to compare it to. I purchased this item because I needed to reseed a 50 x 50 area of my lawn that had been taken over by crabgrass. After working a short time with a rake I decided to purchase a roto-tiller to do the job. I typically am one that likes gas operated equipment and high end equipment. however being that I was only going to use it infrequently I felt a gas operated tiller may not be best because of long term non-use. After reading reviews of several I decided to purchase this unit.
    Review:
First, because of the current rating (12 amps) I purchased a 12/3 extension cord with unit. Most extension cords will not handle the current for this device. I would highly recommend you do same. The unit comes in 3 pieces and assembles quickly. The weight of unit is manageable and should not present issue with most users. To start with I would like to say I was quite impressed. Although my yard is not very rocky it made short work of cutting thru the weeds and hard packed soil. I started with the adjustment at the greatest depth and quickly realized it was to much. The unit easily dug a hole and buried itself. After readjustment I found a setting that dug a depth to about 4 to 6 inches. The unit was very manageable at this depth. Deeper depths require more effort to get thru the “mounded” soil it creates. When the unit did encounter rocks it easily pulled it them out. Several where in the 4″-5″ range. I would estimate that it took about 45 to 60 minutes to do the 50′ x 50′ area. I did not work continuously, I stopped on occasion to allow the unit to cool and rake to the area previously done. I allowed the unit to cool only because of others comments that they “burnt” out there unit. Quite honestly I think it would have been fine to do this entire area without stopping. However I should note that long weeds/grass do wrap around the shaft. You should clear them occasional (see attached video) to keep them from cutting into the transmission seal and/or binding the unit up. I suspect this may have been the cause of the previously mentioned reports of units burning up. I would also add others suggested using hose clamps at the handle connections to make the unit more rigid. I tightened my handles with a wrench and found this not to be necessary. I gave it five stars not to indicate its the best tiller ever just that it performed at or better than expected/advertised.

This tiller is amazing. I was sceptical at first but once it arrived I opened the box and assembled it which took a couple minutes I thought there is no way this could tackle anything more than tilling a sandbox with loose sand. Well I was shocked when I plugged it in and squeezed the trigger. This thing tore through my garden in no time and did a better job than a gas powered tiller 5 times the size. Since it did such a great job on the garden I figured I’d try flowerbeds which have never been turned over, this tiller just tore through it like a hot knife through butter. Then I figured time for the ultimate test, I was going to rent a gas powered rear tine tiller to do my backyard so I can level and reseed the lawn but figured I’ll see what this bad boy can do. I am blown away. This thing chewed through the grass, the rock hard Canadian clay and ripped a million rocks out from the ground. Some of them 12-16” in size. It made short work of my entire backyard and my back isn’t killing me from fighting with a larger gas powered tiller. When I was done I picked this thing up with 1 hand and put it neatly in the corner of my shed and wrapped up the cord and just stared at the backyard and was in complete shock at how well this small electric tiller did on 2500 sqft of backyard. I can’t wait for the spring so I can pull this thing out and attack my garden again. Would be great if there was a weight attachment that can be added to help pull it down into the soil but other than that I’m blown away. Don’t think twice about buying this monster.

I used to work with a motorized cultivator (30 years old). I did not like it. This one is electric, but has a powerful motor and thin blades that makes it really powerful. I used it in my garden with hard earth and many rocks, works better than expected and definitely better than my old motorized cultivator. I tried it on my grass, just to see how powerful it is. Result: I was able in couple of minutes to get a new place to put flowers.

Device is very quiet and light, but makes a lot of dust.Only problem I have it that rock, from time to time get stuck between the blades.

    I highly recommend it.

Update after two years of use (little less than 2 years)

Plastic handles broke after a year. Replaced them with metal bar
Differential broke after 1,5 year of usage. Let’s see if it will be warrantied. I take bets…

    Bottom line:

+ Motor is nice, quiet and powerful
    – Everything around the motor is cheap not built to last, like to many modern appliances and tools.

To be tested: Snow Joe customer service. More details to come.

This came delivered yesterday and took all of 20 min to assemble. I put in an hour yesterday right after I put it together and 30 min so far this morning. The video is of this mornings work so far. The video clearly shows the beast this tiller is. It’s dislodging river rocks some of which are the size of small melons. There aren’t many reviews to show the power of this tiller so felt the video would speak for itself. It does jummp around if your soil is rocky. And the switch isn’t in a bad place as far as I’m concerned but I taped it down to be able to handle it while in operation. I loaded a cinder block step to help weigh it down based on the suggestion of another reviewer. As you can see I’m a muscular, powerful person, and I’m having to manhandle it. It’s worth every penny I paid!

I used this in a yard with hard soil mixed with a lot of 2″ rocks. I’m very happy with how it performed.

I’d never used a tiller before and had low expectations for this machine, thinking that it may not work as well as shown in the Youtube videos – possibly the machine wouldn’t be powerful enough or my backyard was especially hard and rocky. Within the first 15 seconds I was already pleasantly surprised at how well this thing churned up the soil and didn’t seem to have problems with the fairly large rocks pervasive in the yard. The only time the tiller got stuck on a rock was with a huge 4″ one which stalled the motor. I took the handle of a broom and knocked it out, and there was no damage or problems from it. Very happy with the purchase.
