I paid $50 for the same size bucket at my local pool store, and after adding the whole thing, the level came back down.after the next.time we.cleaned the pool filter. I wasn’t gonna spend that much again. I ordered this for about $35, and I only had to use Babout half the bucket to raise the level by 60 per the label. It was right on and worked just as expected in 24 hours by nroadcasting.it.over the deep end of the pool. No.problem having it dissolve. Took water sample to the pool store the next day, and it was just right. I love this stuff! I’ll be keeping this around every pool season from now on.

I have bought this product both in the plastic bucket and the bag. I thought I would try the bag packaging this time so I wouldn’t have plastic to dispose of. The bag was taped shut, but it tore slightly in shipping and a little of the product spilled out (not enough to cause any serious problem).

However, next time I am going back to the more sturdy bucket package.

I needed to raise my calcium hardness (CH) levels and this was exactly what I needed. The calcium was in thin flakes that mostly all dissolved before it reached the bottom of an 8 ft deep pool. The small amount that made it to the bottom dissolved after one pass of brushing. (It dissolves faster in cold water, mine was around 55F) It raised my CH level exactly as marked on the bucket instructions (see picture) up 100 ppm for 25 lbs. Awesome and oddly satisfying.

To open this bucket, you have to remove a tab from the side of the lid (you can see the little tab on the ground in one of the pics). Then forcefully pry the lid off starting in the area where you removed the tab. The lid is on there tight. Check the bucket for opening instructions if you have issues.

Please click “helpful” if this helped, I like to hear that!

This worked well in my in-ground cement / plaster pool and resulted in the expected increase in calcium per the label, same as other more expensive calcium increasers from local pool store. It also dissolved just as well as other calcium increasers I’ve used. The label on this product advises to add by sprinkling it over the pool. That worked fine – the particles that dropped to the bottom were dissolved within a minute or two. The label on the pool store increasers suggest pre-dissolving in a bucket, in increments. That pre-dissolving method also worked well with this Pool Mate product. I suspect the reason for recommending the sprinkling method (versus pre-dissolving) is some concern about splashing the dissolving liquid into one’s eyes, since the water does naturally heat up during this exogenic process of dissolving the calcium. So the “sprinkling” method is probably the safest for the user. I also calculated the amount of calcium increase expected based on the weight of calcium added and my pool size – result was exact. Use the chart on the product or have more fun with the “poolmath” area in the forum at troublefreepool.com. I’m very happy with this Pool Mate calcium product.

Normally I have had to mix a small amount of calcium increased with water in a five gallon bucket, repeat as many times to deploy the needed amount. This brand didn’t require mixing with wat and could be sprinkled along the edge of the pool. Since I have a good strong current around the edge I just slowly poured in front of a return. Barely any flakes sat at the bottom of the pool which is awesome. I usually add increaser at the beginning of each season, so I know I will be buying this brand again for the ease of use.

My new 22,000 gallon pool started at a CH of 80 ppm and this raised it to 240 ppm. I added it in thirds over a few days to observe the effects. I mixed it in a 5-gallon bucket first, then poured it in the pool skimmer. The bucket gives off some heat, I guess it’s slightly exothermic when mixed.

This worked great to increase the calcium hardness in my pool. I always start with half of what the pool store recommends, and it’s fine now. This dissolves fairly quickly and is much cheaper than the brand at the pool store. Highly recommended.

I was shocked to read some reviewers say this wasn’t pure or weaker than other like products. That’s patently false. This stuff is legit. I poured 5 lbs in a 5 gallon bucket (half filled with water) to start with and it got way hotter than expected. It dissolved much easier and in the next minute while pouring it around the perimeter of the pool, the bottom of the bucket nearly got too hot to touch. I couldn’t believe the heat coming off of it. It raised hardness quicker than expected and I couldn’t be happier. Fantastic product at a great price.
