The Hypervolt Plus with Bluetooth is my first percussive massager, though I’ve wanted to try one out for a while now. The device itself is very durably constructed with a solid, heavy body and soft-touch silicone on nearly every surface. It comes pre-assembled with the flat head attachment and includes four others: fork, bullet, cushion, and ball, each meant for different applications suited for different parts of your body. To change the heads, simply pull straight out (fairly hard) on the attachment until it pops out and push the desired head in. The unit runs off a rechargeable Li-ion battery that’s contained within the removable handle, and a full-charge gets you about 3 hours of cumulative use. The charger is a laptop-style power adapter with a barrel style plug that plugs into the base of the handle where you’ll also find the power switch.
The device’s operation is pretty simple. Set the power switch to on, press the ‘speed button’ to set low, medium, or high speed, and place the vibrating head on whichever muscle or muscle group you want to use it on. But my main concern was the lack of instructions in the box on how to safely and effectively use the device for pre-workout, post-work, or pain remediation. There’s very little in the way of printed directions in the included manual, though there are a handful of video clips from Hyperice online demonstrating usage. The alternative is to download and use the smartphone app that guides you with video clips on how to use the device on different parts of your body. However, currently you must have an iOS device (like an iPhone) in order to use the Hyperice app. The app is not, as of this writing, found in the Google Play store for any Android devices. Hopefully that will be developed and released soon, so I can use my own phone to learn about and control the Hypevolt, rather than borrowing an iPhone to do so.
The app pairs with the Hypervolt via Bluetooth and requires you to create an account. Once in the app, you’ll provide some details about your regular activities, like sports and fitness (including ‘office work’) in order to get some recommendations on use. You can also sync to Strava or Apple Health and turn on reminders to use the Hypervolt. In addition to being the largest resource of use instructions, the app expands the feature-set of the Hypervolt. For example, in the app you can select a routine for a specific purpose, like hip-mobility or target certain areas of the body. These routines run for a predefined amount of time and may have multiple sections that require you to change the heads in between.
One criticism I had with the routines is that they start automatically after only 5 seconds and don’t indicate at the start of each section which head to use. Only prior to or by pausing the routine after it has begun can you check the routine overview to determine which heads to use and the correct body position for each section. You can elect to have the intensity of the massager change automatically or control it manually, which you’ll have to set each time you choose a routine. I do wish that the app was a little smarter and would learn your manual preferences overtime so that the “automatic” feature would be more accurate and useful the more you use the device.
As for effectiveness, the percussion massage it delivers is pretty satisfying and afterwards I do feel much more relaxed. The vibrations are deep and intensify which each increase in speed level and the more physical pressure you apply. There is even a meter of white lights (three levels) to indicate how much force you are applying, though you’ll need a line of sight to see them on the back of the device and it’s not useful if, for example, you are working on your traps. You do have to be careful to avoid bony areas as it may hurt when the massage head strikes a hard spot, and since the unit weighs about 2lbs 10 oz, some folks may experience fatigue from holding the device over longer sessions. However, after using the Hypervolt on my “problem areas,” like my forearms, ankles, and around my shoulder blades, I can feel a difference as some of the soreness, tension, and tightness has been released. The machine itself is also pretty quiet while in use and you could comfortably have a conversation over the noise of the motor.

I have used several different percussion hammers over the years ranging in price and build quality. The Hyperice – Hypervolt Plus blows its competitors out of the water. It is well balanced, lightweight, powerful, and built to last.
    Pros:
    * Build quality – This is probably one of the most important aspects when selecting a percussion device. Hyperice used a high-torque 90 W motor which will withstand the thousands of revolutions that occur during each use. It has 3 speed settings which include 30 Hz, 40 Hz, and 53 Hz. I find the 30 Hz works the best for me. It also includes a rechargeable 24V lithium-ion battery allowing for multiple sessions before needing to recharge. It has an easy to read battery indicator on the back with 4 green lights. There is also a circular LED band on the handle that changes color. It takes about 5-6 hours to fully charge.
    * Lightweight and balanced – It weighs 2.5 lbs and is easy to hold in your hand with a well centered balance point.
    * Attachments – It comes with a wide variety of attachments (fork, flat, ball, bullet, and cushion) which are used to target different areas of the body. It includes an easy to read card with pictures of the different attachments and examples of what body part(s) to use each on. For example, the fork attachment is great for longer muscles such as the forearms or calves. I also found this attachment worked great along my spine.
    * App – The app is sweet and another major selling point of the device. Once the device is connected, you can select a body location or a glide routine. Each routine has a video that goes with it showing you how to use the percussion device correctly. It also automatically adjusts the speed of percussion throughout the routine. The routines vary from a few minutes to 20+ minutes. You are also able to use the device without doing a routine.
    * It works – I have been doing a lot of indoor cycling since the pandemic started and often find myself sore/stiff. I have been using this device for about 1.5 weeks and have noticed a significant improvement in both muscle soreness/stiffness as well as recovery times. I now use it after every cycling session. I think it is important to note that you do not have to be an elite athlete or someone who exercises frequently to benefit from this device. If you have chronic muscle soreness/stiffness/pain then I would highly recommend giving this percussion device a try.
Overall, the Hyperice- Hypervolt Plus is an outstanding percussion massage device that is well built and offers an easy to use app. It works! I highly recommend it.

First impression was the packaging which says a lot for a product in my opinion. The massager came well packaged with great presentation.
Using the included charger, I charged the unit to full. Took a short amount of time but item did come with some charge so I can’t speak on how long it would take to fully charge the battery.
The massager is well made and feels like it can take a bump. Very solid piece of equipment that seems like it will last for years to come.
Controls are very simple. Turn the switch located on the bottom of the handle to on, then choose the speed you prefer on the back by hitting the button until you find your desired setting.
Performance was excellent. I used it on my arms and legs. My legs tend to get stiff since I sit at work most of the day. Used it on my legs for a few minutes each leg and felt like I had a new set of legs that were not idle all day. Same with my arms.
I do have to get used to using it on my back but I am new to percussion massagers and am sure I’ll get it. Felt like the unit bounced when I hit the bone in my shoulder blade. This did not hurt at all and I assume it happened because I may have been holding it incorrectly and had little cushioning due to lack of muscle on my blade.
Initially I didn’t understand why Bluetooth would be beneficial but once I installed the Hyperice app I found out quickly. Device paired almost immediately with no issues. Using the app, you can set up a profile which will gear routines towards you whether you work behind a desk or are active in sports, gym work, etc.
Using the app is simple. Turn on the power on the massager, choose one of the routines they provide and hit start and simply follow the directions they give. This is a really amazing feature that I love.
Changing the attachments is easy. Simply pull out the one attached and put in the one you want to use. Not much more to that but I can say the attachments are well made.
All in all, this worked out all my kinks better than I could have expected and the overall functionality is very simple to use whether you use the app or change the settings manually on the unit.
If you are looking for a percussion massager I promise you will not go wrong with this one.

The Hypervolt Plus, made by Hyperice, is a handheld massage device that provides increased circulation to different muscles via percussion vibration. That percussion vibration yields sensation that relaxes muscles and relieves soreness and pain caused by tension in the muscles. That tension could be related to stress, excessive exercise during workouts or even from a lack of muscles usage. It is a great device to use before and after workouts as well as before going to sleep.
The Hypervolt Plus is a fantastically made product that you can truly feel is well made as soon as you hold it in your hand. It is lightweight, easy to hold with one hand and feels good to the touch with a nice soft black matted finish. You can see and feel the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into making this device. It device allows you to give yourself or a loved one an effective massage to relieve muscle pain or relax without getting tired and or wearing out your fingers.
I was concerned about the price at first, as I have seen simlair devices on the market for far less and appeared to offer more bang for your buck. I consider myself conservative or frugal in spending my hard earned money. But I am willing to spend more for something of a better quality. I’ve learned over time that you get what you pay for and often times I have spent, or should I say lost, more money trying to get the best deal on a cheap product, instead of focusing on what really matters. Unfortunately, on several occasions, I have ended up spending more money and time on several cheap products when I could have simply purchased what I knew was the better quality product and it would not only have been more effective, but would have provided me with longer lasting benefits. Life lessons that have paid off with this device as it meets my need for quality accompanied with long lasting benefits. I can honestly say that from the time I’ve unboxed my device until the writing of this review, I am beyond convinced that this device is not only worth the money, but that each and every day that I’ve used it, I begin to understand why it has the suggested retail price, which is close to four hundred U.S. dollars at the time of this review. The design screams experienced engineers and the build screams quality American made.
Nonetheless, what you really want to know is if this thing really works. Short answer… YES IT REALLY WORKS!! I experienced almost immediate relief from muscle soreness the first time I used my device. I have been using it the past five days and I haven’t felt this good in a very long time. Since I have been using it, I am able to move around more easily without pain and stiffness and feel more ready for my workouts and more relaxed after my workouts. Now, whenever I feel a slight pain I immediately think of my hypervolt plus and use it to get rid of the pain. In the past when I was in pain, I used to think about the pain medicine I would take, but now I think about what attachment I can use that will be the most effective. All of the attachments feel great. Each time I use one I find that it becomes my new favorite. All of them are useful and serve a purpose. I know that I can count on my hypervolt plus to decrease muscle pain and provide some relief. I am able to use this device on my entire body and it feels so good knowing that in just a short amount of time, I will feel the pain relief I am desperately craving. Additionally, it’s quiet enough that you are able use it and have a conversation with someone in person or on the phone without the other person ( or the listener on the other line) being disturbed by the noise. You can use it while watching television and if someone else is in the house sleeping, no matter how quiet your house is. It is even quiet enough that you can use it out in public or in an office setting.
This is a device for everyone in the house no matter how active or lacking in physical activity exists. It will make you feel better and want to workout more or make you want to start to workout or just move around if you’re not very active. It gets the blood moving around in the area on your body that you massage so that you feel less stressed, more fluid in movement, and warmed up ready to move around or relax and be able to chill, and even sleep better and pain free. It is gentle enough on lower speeds that is satisfying for the entire body, but have higher speed that can me used for a tough massage when wanted.
As aforementioned, the Hypervolt Plus is made of good quality. But the quality doesn’t just rest there, nor does it begin or end there. The Hypervolt Plus is wrapped in quality packaging that not only secured it in place but protected it from damage. The moment you open the box, you notice there’s something different going on. You see and feel quality packaging, great color schemmes that are pleasing and easy on the eyes for viewing and reading. This is not your typical box you recycle or throw away. No space in the box is unused and you’re able to locate all of the instructions, device, and attachments with ease. It is packaged in a way as if there is someone close to you that is planning on presenting it to you. You can also keep the box to store your devices, when it’s not in use; unless you purchase a carry case. The box is so nice, I wish they would have used this concept for the carrying bag and built it into the packaging. I am however happy that they provided a nice small bag for carrying the attachments. The box was filled with a lot of useful informational instruction cards to get you familiar with the your new device and get you started right away. The cards were user friendly, filled with great pictorial illustrations that made it easy to follow along as you unpackaged your Hypervolt Plus. I appreciated the “get started here” card that provided step by step instructions. The cards also directed to me download an optional free app to be used on a cell phone or tablet with my device. The app made the process even easier. The app is so user friendly and makes connecting and using your device a breeze. The app had introductions by actual users of the products that are professional athletes as well as how to videos. The app is an extra benefit that frankly isn’t getting its’ due props. The bluetooth capabilities on they Hypervolt is underplayed, but should not be undervalued. You’re able to connect your Hypervolt to your phone and have it automatically use your health data to recommend the best use before and after workouts based on your activities. It uses your already stored health data on your iOS phone and is ready to recommend routines immediately. This is another added benefit as other workout devices may require you to use the device for a couple weeks to learn your workout habits before it will make recommendations. The app allows for you to follow along with several guided videos or have it automatically adjust speeds as it guides you along a specific routine. There are a lot of videos that show you how to achieve your desired result and if you are unsure where to begin, there is a section that allows you to pin point where you are experiencing pain and then it recommends an activity to help reduce that pain. I like having the ability to use the app to locate where I was having pain, in my case my IT/Band and hips (I didn’t know this before the app so I’m learning more about my muscles via this free app) and being able to view selected recommended guided videos (auto or manual) to target that area for pain relief. I simply can’t say enough good things about this app.
The more I learned about my Hypervolt, the more excited I got. The hardest part about getting started was waiting the recommended six hours to charge the battery. The Hypervolt is easy to plug in and charge. It doesn’t require that you have to look closely and line everything up. You simple plug in the included wall power adapter at the bottom of the battery and you are good to go. After the initial recommendation to change it for 6 hours, it changes back up fairly quickly and always seems to have enough charge to complete your percussion session. The illuminated green light at the base of the battery is helpful in helping you keep up with the charging process and the four green lights at the back of the main unit allows you see an approximate of how much power is remaining. I’ve discovered that it’s best to power my device overnight while I’m sleeping. The two hours in battery life is more than enough power for warm ups before and after my workouts, recovery after my workout and any routine maintenance before I go to bed. And if I’m feeling any trigger points of pain or soreness in my muscles, I still have more than enough power to use it throughout the night until I’m feeling better and ready for bed.
In closing, Yes, Yes, & Yes. Yes it works, Yes it’s worth it, and Yes you need this. Why else would the National Basketball Association (NBA) name Hyperice as their official recovery technology partner, if the Hypervolt Plus didn’t work? As for me, while some still go to sleep with their teddy bear, I‘ll continue to go to sleep with my HyperVolt Plus right by my side… just in case.

TLDR: Despite not indicating it in their warranty information on the Hyperice site, apparently they will not send you a replacement for a defective unit, even when purchased from an authorized retailer like Best Buy. The best they will offer is to have the unit serviced if you ship it to them. A lengthy and inconvenient process. So if you still want to give the Hypervolt a try, or any Hyperice product for that matter, I suggest you purchase it directly from their website so that you can avoid the headache I’m dealing with now, after only a few weeks of ownership!
Well, the Hyperice Hypervolt Plus was the absolute best massager I’ve purchased…for the first month of owning it… It’s powerful, smooth running , and really quiet compared to any other heavy duty handheld percussion massager I’ve owned (and being a sufferer of Chronic pain and illness, I’ve tried many over the years). It was a life-changing experience at first. So much relief of pain, soreness and stiffness.
So, after a few weeks I started experiencing some odd behavior with the battery and battery life degraded surprisingly quickly. Average run times became much shorter and I experienced problems with both the battery gauge on the unit and the rgb led ring on the battery itself. Then the unit started making an odd noise coming from the motor. A strange scratchy sound from within. Then i noticed that the unit and battery started getting much warmer than usual. This all developed towards the second half of first month of ownership. Too late to return to Best Buy (only 15 day return policy) for a replacement.
I thought it was ridiculous that this massager I just paid $477 for (bundled with the carrying case) was already malfunctioning. I figured surely this is my bad luck striking again. I received a defective unit and hopefully Hyperice will make it right, send me a replacement, and all will be well. Boy, was I wrong…
I reached out to customer service, only to discover that unlike MANY other companies out there, Hyperice doesn’t seem to care if you bought one of their products from an authorized retailer, such as Best Buy! There’s nothing I could find on their website saying that they can’t send you a replacement unless you purchased it directly from their website, but that’s what a customer service agent told me. The best they could offer me was to have me ship it out to them and have them perform repairs on it. I explained how this would be a massive inconvenience for me. Im disabled. I spend most of my days stuck in bed, in pain. Having a reliable massager often dictates how my day will go. Some days I can’t even get out of bed until my wife helps massage away the intense pain and soreness. I can’t afford to be without a massager for the duration of time it takes to send the unit out, wait for them to recieve and repair it, and then send it back to me! I gotta have a working massager. I don’t even own a backup unit right now.
The response I received was unflinching and sounded very rehearsed. They wouldn’t even take into consideration how quickly this expensive unit ceased to function properly. Couldn’t offer any better resolution. Because “that’s our policy.” I think they need to elaborate on the warranty details on the website then. I don’t see anything in the details saying they can only do replacements if you purchased directly from them.
This is a frustrating situation for me. Part of me really hates having to leave such a poor review, because while the Hypervolt was functioning properly it really gave me more relief than any other massager I’ve used in the last 20 years. I guess that’s why im so utterly frustrated over this, because I felt like my lengthy quest for a reliable massager was finally over, and now my hopes abd dreams have been dashed once again. So if you want to give their products a try, I suggest you order directly from them in order to avoid the massive headache that im dealing with now.

This massager earns its keep. When you think about the time and money spent on getting a professional massage you can really see the value in it. The app integration makes it easy to get good results. My wife spends a lot of time standing at her job and using this daily has really helped her back, shoulders and legs.
    Pros
    – Easy to set up and use. There is a solid switch for power, a button to change intensity, and easy to read LED indicators for battery level and Bluetooth status. I had no issues downloading the app and linking to my iPhone 11.
    – I loved how the app guides you thru using the massager for each area of your body. Linking your phone allows the app to control intensity while you follow along with videos for each focus area.
    – You only need a few minutes in each area to feel refreshed
    – There are multiple intensity settings and on high this thing has no trouble getting the deepest knot or tight muscle
    – The case is covered in a soft touch material and the massager has a very solid feel
    – It includes five attachments and the tutorials in the app show you what to use each one for
    – The battery life is great. You can use it a few times a day and it will still last days before it needs to be recharged.
    Things to consider
    – It is heavy and the vibration can make it hard to hold for long periods in some positions.
    – You hold it using the lower part of the body which feels natural and balanced, but might be thick for someone with small hands.
    – It is powerful and should be used with care. If you hit a bone you will feel it. I recommend watching the videos/using the low settings to start.
    – There is a case for the attachments, but not for the massager itself or the charger – so you will need a bag to keep everything together.

The first thing I noticed when I received the Message Device is how heavy duty this thing is. The device comes with a set of different message heads, for different levels of intensity and different muscle groups. There is also an associated app that you can use, which shows you different recommended techniques to use and will auto-set the intensity when using their guided workout.
The main benefits of this device is how powerful and stable it is. The device gives a very powerful message and is fairly quiet. The device feels very stable when in use.
My main issue with the device is that it may be too powerful for its own good. I wish that there might be one or two intensity levels that are a little lower than its lowest. I wouldn’t recommend it for average people, and is best suited for serious athletes.

The Hyperice – Hypervolt Plus (Bluetooth) Percussion Massage Device in black is a very nice and powerful massaging machine. This high-end is aesthetically pleasing with a very sleek design, a nice matte black finish, and is made out of a very strong and ergonomic rubber.
You can tell this is well built just by how heavy it feels in your hand. So, the power button, with an on and off position, is on the bottom of the handle along with the charging port. On the back of the massaging head, by the vent, is the speed button, which has 3 options. The lights below that, on the bottom part of the vent, are the battery level which light up well that contrast with the matte black finish. As you can see in the picture titled, “Charging the Machine”, there is a solid green lit area around the handle that lets you know that it is fully charged, as well as, the lights on that vent. In fact, the light will turn red, to the right of the battery level lights, when the machine needs to be recharged. In my case, the machine was fully charged because when I plugged it in the solid green light came on immediately.
The machine comes with 5 heads which you can change out and use for different areas of the body, as well as, the amount of concentration you require for the massage. So, I live on many acres and my work out involves a lot of maintenance of my yard and in the garden, including the lifting of heavy buckets of rocks and mulch. I used this massager on achy muscles and even used it on an injured toe and bottom pad of my right foot. I thought the toe my have been broken a while back and that I had a possible contracture, but I used the bullet looking attachment on the toe and the balloon attachment on the underside pad of my foot and it has felt wonderful after about 2 daily consecutive treatments. So, my point is that not only is this deep tissue massager recommended or initially produced for athletes to recover quicker from their workouts, it is marvelous, too, for older people that might either have had a trauma and a related injury or perhaps some sort of affects from arthritis that can use this for their well-being and health also.
We happen to have a full gym in our basement and to that end, my son, who is a lifter, also used this machine and he stated that this really helps him with his post workout muscle soreness, as well as, the delayed onset of muscle soreness that he get’s the next day, especially on leg days. I feel that this massager will come in very handy for all sorts of people and whatever their issues might be which then makes the cost of this machine more attractive since it will provide a real service for a multitude of age groups.
The app downloads quick and is easily set up. The only problem that I had occurred in the registering of the product. When registering, their system required that I you show actual proof of purchase with either an actual picture of the serial number or file for proof of purchase, but seems to not allow pictures directly taken from the phone, why is this happening, is this a programming error to. Even though it gives you that option.
The machine’e Bluetooth easily connected to my phone and then the app recognizes what body part is being massaged and then it shows you routines that are available for that body part, however, it does not control the machine, it shows you how and what. This routine that is used is then recorded by the app.

When registering, name, address, and proof of ownership were required with an email acknowledging the registration sent. As it turns out, I wound up calling their customer service which since they are located in California is 9-5 PST, M-F. So I am central time and had to wait until 11 am to try to get someone. Bottom line, I tried calling various times of their day, but still had to leave a message because their answering machine does not let you stay on the line for very long and automatically either requires you to leave a message for a future callback or just hangs up on you. They did call back within a few hours and I mentioned that to the lady that called me that no matter what time of day that I called no one came on the line before the system truncated the call. She apologized and said that they were working from home due to COVID and would advise the powers that be about this. I inquired about 2 things, when they might have an android app available so that more of the population would be able to fully use this and she said that they were working on it and that it might be available by year end or into 2021. Second, I asked about the solid green light around the handle, that means fully charged versus a blinking green light which means charge. I never had the blinking light. She did tell me that the user should not let the battery go below the 2 green lights before starting recharging, do not let it fully and completely discharge its charge. Over all, the machine works excellently and I definitely would recommend it.
