Due to my old MacBook Pro frying its graphics chip, I’ve been forced to purchase a newer model (decided on a 2018) which of course comes equipped with 4 x USBC ports. I have amassed a collection of cables which plugged into my old MacBook utilising USB2, USB3, RJ45 and mini Display Port, so the problem was how am I going to use all my peripherals without running out of ports or purchasing lots of new cables. Well, part of the answer was to purchase these Nonda USB3 to USBC adaptors.

I’d never heard of Nonda, but based on their small size (approx 16mm width) they looked ideal to terminate my USB3 cables. Good value at 2 in a pack for £8.60, but to be honest I didn’t have high hopes for the quality. However, they arrived very quickly and I was pleasantly surprised on opening the simple but adequate packaging, that the case is machined aluminium with a silky smooth anodised finish…very nice indeed. The colour blends well with the Space Gray Macbook Pro, but not an exact match…this isn’t a problem for me.

So do they work? Yes perfectly! Pushed them onto the ends of my USB 2 and 3 cables and plugged them in the MacBook where they entered the socket with a firm push ending in an audible and tactile click. Nice and secure! As always the USB2/3 cable is a reasonably secure push fit into the adaptor, it could be pulled out if you tried hard enough, but if its critical it doesn’t get removed, I would personally tape it to the adaptor. This is a failing of USB 2/3 design and no reflection on the Nonda product. On each side of the adaptor are some very finely knurled grip panels. I’m guessing this is pressed or cast into the surface, not as sharp as cut knurling but does the job equally and perfect for grasping the adaptor when removing.

It’s worth noting that you can’t fit two of these adaptors side by side in the MacBook as there isn’t enough room between the two USBC inputs.

On the basis of the above I would certainly recommend them but I can’t comment on the durability of of these small adaptors as I’ve only just received them, but they look like they will last. Almost forgot, if you register them on the Nonda website, you get an additional 2 years warranty…so 3 years warranty in all. 👍

Okay, for those who may wonder, the regular larger USB port is open on one end of this adaptor which, will convert or adapt the signal thru to the built in male end USB Type- C on the other end so that you plug into whatever you need.
Got the pair for adapting my USB fans, and other regular USB devices as needed. Handy items. Great lightening Buy!!

Apple is famous for getting rid of things before we are ready to give them up. I have several devices that I use with my new MacBook and they are all USB. But, Apple decided to completely get rid of USB so now we are left needing things like this until we upgrade and get all new devices … which I am going to resist.

These are great because now I can use my USB hard drives. There are only two things that make them less than perfect. One is that they should be a bit deeper because the USB part sticks out a bit on the end and it causes the connector to seem like it’s falling out. Both pieces just need to be a bit deeper. The other thing is that because it’s USB, it’s wider and therefore you can’t use two of these together. If they had made them so that the Thunderbolt connecter was on the far right or left instead of in the middle, you might be able to use two of them in neighboring ports. But as is, you end up losing a port with these. It’s not a huge deal as I have a USB port hub for the other side of my laptop, but this is really something they should have discovered during the engineering phase and made it so you could use two side by side.

I still recommend them as they are handy to have when you just quickly need to use a USB device. Now, let’s see how long it takes before Apple gets rid of the Thunderbolt plugs and we have to switch to yet something else.

I bought 4 of these adapters for such things as Logi Mouse dongle, Wireless headset dongle plus other frequently used USB devices. They are small and compact enough to leave attached to cable / dongle. Only issue is they are are too wide to fit two side by side but you can get a normal USBC connector and one of these adapters on the same side together so its not a major issue.

These adapters are affordable and work well with various peripherals I’ve tested, USB-3 (type B) external SSD enclosures, simple USB 2 cables for connecting/charging mice and iOS devices.

The connection points have suitable tension. Both connecting into the Type-B/female end as well as inserting the Type-C/male seat comfortably. It is snug enough not to wobble about or fall out but not too tight that would make it difficult to remove or sense excessive friction that might scratch up the other ports or devices.

The only downside I’ve experienced is using both side-by-side on my MacBook Pro 16″. This will likely apply to all other MacBooks with dual USB-C ports in the same arrangement. I can’t speak for other devices. They’re a little too wide to seat alongside one another. In spite of this shortcoming, these are stealthy-looking (no annoying branding, nice darker grey power-coating) and convenient adapters.

3/23 Just arrived and first thing I see is that two will NOT fit next to each other on my MBook Pro. See pic.

On the other hand, The iBlason case I use on my MBook does not interfere. I will update if any other issues.

3/25 One did not work was DOA. Returned.

I’m an avid use of Apple products. However, ever since Apple removed USB ports from their laptops (goodness knows why), it’s become essential to buy a USB adaptor alongside MacBooks. Purchasing one from Amazon is definitely the wise choice as opposed to spending a significant amount of money on one from the Apple Store.

Overall this is a small and attractive looking option that I don’t regret buying. I adore the rose gold colour, and love how it’s so small that I can leave it attached and fit it in my laptop bag.

***[PLEASE READ] HOWEVER, there is one negative that you should know before purchasing. PLEASE NOTE YOU CANNOT PLACE TWO OF THESE SIDE BY SIDE. THEY WILL NOT FIT NEXT TO EACH OTHER!! This shouldn’t be a major issue unless you’re planning on buying two pairs but please bear this in mind before purchasing! Thankfully, you can still fit a charger next to it as shown in my picture attached.

I hope this review has been helpful:)

(1/2021 – 6 month update: These are still working great and just ordered another pair for a webcam and external hard drive I had purchased since. No issues over the last 6 months. I wish they were a little slimmer but otherwise I still stand by my review from June 2020.)

Fantastic minimal USB solution for MacBook Pro 2020!

I recently upgraded my 2015 MacBook Pro to a 2020 MacBook Pro. With that change, I lost all my ports except USB C (Thunderbolt).

Anticipating the need for all those ports again, I bought a $60 multi media hub which made my wireless mouse and keyboard start lagging on my external monitor. At first I thought my wireless devices were suddenly buggy or defective but not until I tried this minimal Nonda USB port.

After 24 hours of use, the Nonda USB completely delivers with no lag on either my wireless Logi keyboard or wireless Logi Mx master mouse! Super happy! Can’t beat the price though I wish you could have two connected side by side (too wide) and I wish the Space Gray was more accurate in color (see photo). Will be returning the Anker Hub.

I’d suggest keeping any usb receiver within direct line of your wireless products! (So have USB adapter on right side if mouse/keyboard on right of laptop. I did try using the mouse on the left use of my laptop with the Nonda adapter on the right and seems to work just fine!

These turned up nest day and arre nicely built and work as they should.
They do have 2 issues, 1 massive one (for me) and one tiny one.
Massive problem. The bodies of these plags are quite wide and therefoe you CANNOT plug 2 in side by side on a Macbook pro. As I have a dock that plugs into two sockets at once on one side of the laptop i can only plug one of these in on the other. BEWARE.
Tiny problem. I have the space grey version and these are much darker than that. On a silver version they will stick out like a sore thumb.

I tried these in my Mac Air. One would light up but I couldn’t move the arrow and it wouldn’t click/select. The other one didn’t work at all. The note in the box said contact the seller before complaining. I sent an email. Brian replied and said to be sure I push it all the way in & be sure the “driver” is installed. I replied that there is no driver… it’s a wireless, just plug in an it would work. I tried both of these in two ports that I verified are working. No reply from Brian with three successive emails. I bought a different brand and all is working fine. I also explained that I’m elderly and sheltering at home and didn’t want to send this is to Amazon for only a $7 purchase and also that I needed these right away. So, I’m very disappointed that these didn’t work and that the seller didn’t do the right thing… just send out another box of these right away.

I was actually impressed with the quality of these USB-C adapters. They work really well and look good. Note: you cant put both of them side by side (don’t fit) on a Mac Book Pro. You can still put one on the opposite side though!

I was looking for a product that provided a faster means of communication to my handheld device and I was very satisfied. My phone now charges in half the time it would take me to charge it using a regular USB. This USB adapter is also compact, durable, and versatile.

They are pretty secure when plugged in. I mainly got these so I can connect my wireless mouse to my new MacBook without having the usb connector connected to the dongle style adapter. I like the little grips on the side too because it makes it easy to remove when finished. Nonda offers an extended warranty if you register the product on their website which is pretty cool. Goes from 1 year (which is the norm for most electronics to 3 years). Will buy these again if I need them or if I ever need the dongle style. Especially if they are of the same quality.
