I was hoping this canvas was a candidate to replace matte canvas that I’ve used in the past from Epson, Lexjet and Breathing Color. Unfortunately, it’s not very compatible with my Canon ipf8400 printer. There is some visible bronzing caused by differences in reflectivity, rare on matte surfaces, but obvious with the HP surface. As opposed to other brands of canvas that come off the printer essentially dry or near dry to the touch, on the HP canvas blacks smear easily and must be allowed to dry.
To protect the ink surface I spray coat with Breathing Color Glamour II or Lexjet varnish. When coating the other mentioned brands I’m able to achieve a uniform gloss coating on the matte finish. Unfortunately, the HP surface does not accept the spray coating well, resulting in non-uniform coating consistency.

I’m not really sure what the deal is with this Canvas. The price fluctuates, and several of the packages i’ve received have looked like older boxes. But it works fine in our Makerspace’s HP DesignJet 800ps and the low cost let us offer Canvas Printing and Stretching classes to the general public.
Would I trust it in a high precision production operation? Probably not. But for personal projects and DIY Classes, this canvas is great.
