    Original Review:

Rough, pitted construction with a good bit of rust and no makers marks or model stamp. Considerably lower quality construction/finish than all of my other Bosch SDS Max components. Of course, the tamper is meant to pound ground so finish is not a big consideration, but this piece is suspicious as it does not match Bosch’s product info or other retailers examples. Was sold and shipped from Amazon.

Cleaned up the tamper with some T-9 and 0000 steel wool to knock large flakes and deposits of rust off (put sticker back on after for image comparison). Including a pic of the image Bosch provides of HS1828, which is consistent with what other online and local retailers sell vs the one I received (with the sticker). Sent Bosch the images for reference and to check if legitimate, but no response yet.

If it’s Bosch, great. If not, it will probably do the job just as well, but appears to be a less expensive, alternative brand’s part and probably not getting one’s money’s worth.

UPDATED February 22, 2021 – Bosch was able to confirm that the part received without any markings or stamps is an authentic Bosch part and the current offering. Has only seen light use so far and holding up well/doing its job well. Received with rust and seems prone to it. Just be sure to clean and lube a bit after use to keep from rusting over and rusting tools/bits stored with it. Will update if it has problems in the future. Otherwise, good to go.

This is a great tool when you need good compaction in a space that a larger tool will not fit in. The only draw back i found was that the shaft is a press fit making it almost impossible to remove for storage. The shaft is sold separately from base I found that kind of odd. But all around s great addition to my SDS Max tool

The tamper plate we received was of a much poorer quality than the matching shank and it broke within the first couple uses (just tamping dirt, nothing unusual). The shank is good quality steel but the plate seems to be made of a cheap pot metal. The replacement plate we were sent was of equally poor quality and broke just as fast. When we bought the part it came through a 3rd party merchant (Drill Spot) which turned the whole thing into a huge headache. Ultimately we were able to work with Bosch directly for a refund because they wanted the parts back to see what went wrong, so make sure you buy from them directly, not a third party.

First time I every used a jackhammer for a tamp and the first time I was able to get all the dirt back in the hole it came from. In this case the hole was 4’x3’x12′. I am a plumbing contractor and this is a huge improvement compared with the manual tamp. I have to dig up pipes about 3x a month and I excited to have this tool.

Worked well for compacting dirt – got a little more dirt into my bin than I would have if I didn’t use this tool. Not going to replace a plate vibrator but much easier to lug around and cheaper.

Expect that the shank gets embedded into the plate and isn’t easy if even possible to remove.

I needed to backfill and compress the dirt in some trenches, and this worked very well. A lot easier than using a manual tamper.

Works good. You must also purchase the shank (HS1927) separately. The shank is just a friction fit in the plate, don’t be concerned because it’s not coming off. I use this in a Hilti TE76ATC combo hammer. You wouldn’t want to tamp a huge area with it as it’s only 5 inches at a time but for smaller jobs it beats the heck out of doing it by hand force.
