The data sheet of the device make it sounds like it support ceiling mount.

“Wall, ceiling and pole mountable (hardware included)”

That is not true, there is no hardware included for ceiling mount.

[Update 5/7/2021] Change from 1 star to 3
In the latest iOS mydlink app, there is an option in the setting to invert the image. So, it is possible to mount the base on the ceiling and then invert the image.

However, the video quality isn’t that good. They applied too much compression on the video. It is full of artifact and heavily pixalated.

I wanted this for home security, especially when I leave the house. I had another D-Link camera that just died and it was pretty good, so I tried this one since it was in the same price range. This camera was ok, not great, compared to that last one. Plus I had to call D-Link Support twice to get the camera set up on my Android phone and the Cloud – and I’m a pretty tech savvy person. I finally got the camera connected to the free Cloud account, where I found out that the 1080p setting only stays on for a few minutes and then automatically reverts to 720p. Overnight I discovered that the free Cloud plan logs me out every few hours, so if I don’t log back in repeatedly day and night I lose many hours of surveillance. What’s the point of that?!

The Customer Support technician suggested that I upgrade to the $2.49 per month plan for the Cloud and said I could revert to the free plan if I didn’t like it. I agreed, found out two things very quickly. First, having to pay through my Google account instead of using PayPal or my debit card makes my payment information less secure since Google spreads that payment info around in many divisions of the Google platform instead of limiting it to any individual use like PayPal does. Second, when using the paid Cloud plan didn’t fix my problems I wasn’t able to revert back to the free account. The technician lied. I really hate that, so the camera is going back and I won’t be buying any D-Link products for a long time.

We get stuck “loading” live view half the time. If you get an alert, and the camera is recording, it takes extra long time to connect to the live view, sometimes it just times out. Makes it useless as a “greet someone at the door” unit. Can’t depend on it connecting in a timely manner.
Night vision is excellent as is image quality. We have several dlink cameras (inside hockey puck model and the pan and tilt model). Well built. But all of them, even indoor models, have too much lag time connecting.
    Sept 2021 Update –
upgraded wifi extender from TP Link model AC750 (RE220) to model AC1750 (RE450). Lag time has decreased significantly and have not had a “time out” trying to connect. So wifi signal strength is critical. Still keeping the three star rating as a weak wifi signal should have been anticipated for an “outdoor” camera. With the stronger signal it takes 3 seconds to get the alert and approx 8-10 seconds to “load” the live image. Acceptable but not great. And I don’t know if units from other companies do better than that.

Did as was said but the app did not recognize the camera. I scanned the qr code as stated, but it said it does not recognize the device. In addition I did not even see this camera listed in the app when I tried to connect it manually.

I’ve got to say, I’ve been a big buyer of amazon products for a long time. I used to love amazon. However the past year or so it seems many if not most amazon products are crap that falls apart or just doesn’t work. After almost exclusively buying from amazon I am beginning to look elsewhere for products now. You also cant trust the reviews. I believe sellers have found ways to game the system. I’m sure others are experiencing this too. Keep it up amazon and people will slowly move elsewhere for online purchases.

Every D-Link camera I have had (I probably have over 30) has had the ability to get to the web interface to change ports, advanced options, etc. This does NOT have a web interface. It also does not have the ability to flip the picture if you want to mount to the ceiling. That is nuts. Very limited usability. Beware.

I have installed and managed 100’s of other D-Link cameras and was expecting this one to support the same features that all the other D-Link cameras always had.

    Negatives

    1. No way to access the camera via a web browser even if you know the IP address.
    2. You have to use the MyDLink app.
    3. You have to have access to the Internet to set up this device or do anything else with it.
    4. No tech manual of any sort. It only has a quick setup guide.
    5. No instructions of how this device is ONVIF compatible or how to use it with a NASS.
    6. The camera is noticeably warm even inside in the air-conditioning.
    7. Seems like an indoor camera. Nothing about it seems like an outdoor camera.
    8. Seems flimsy. Not solid

    Positives
    1. Easier to setup that Ring and Nest cameras. In fact it was the fastest and easiest setup that I have ever done for a camera that requires an app.
    2. About half the price of a Nest camera.
    3. Records to SD card with no trouble.
    4. MyDLink is easier to use than apps for other camera brands. (If you want a camera that requires an app on your phone.)

I am giving it only three stars because D-Link has no English tech manual for it. The description of it it very vague, and I only bought it because it stated if was ONVIF capable. Maybe it is, but there is no support documentation.
