I finally decided to replace the wooden upright paper towel holder because the only way I could get an exact sheet tear was by putting one hand on top of the roll to stop it from rotating while I was tearing, and, when your hands are dirty from cooking or wet from washing, putting a hand on the top of the roll just dirties or sogs the end of the roll.
This model is attractive (assuming you like the stainless steel look like I do), the base has plenty of weight and a felt-like pad that keeps it from sliding on counters. The ratcheting some reviewers said was really loud wasn’t loud at all – you hear it, but it’s actually pretty quiet. Most importantly, it provides just enough resistance like it’s supposed to. If you pull the end of the roll straight out, you can pull as many sheets off the roll as you like, then pull down to tear them off. I like the pick-a-size paper towel rolls because sometimes you just need a half sheet, a full sheet being wasteful – the ratcheting increments are fine enough that it was super easy to pull a half or whole sheet or more off the roll as needed.
If you’re wondering if you have to remove the top to add or remove a roll, you’d don’t. It’s narrow enough that the roll slides on or off over it.
If I have one concern about this unit it’s wondering how many years I’ll get out of it before I might have to replace it. Any time you have any moving or mechanical parts you’re more likely to have something wear out eventually. Hopefully it’s a simple enough mechanism that it will wear well over time. Time will tell, but, for now, it’s a great unit and I’m quite happy with my purchase.

it’s so LOUD when taking a paper towel from it that it startles everyone in the room! It makes a lot of ratcheting noise. It is heavy and clumsy too. I waited weeks for it and I should have chosen something simpler and quiet.

At first I thought this was great, loved it but now less than 2 months old it is already broken. A week or so it became the leaning tower of Pisa. Now I do use a lot of paper towels in the house hold but come on the towel holder I had before this was 30 plus years old! I’m so disappointed in this less than 60 days old the screw that holds the rod is stripped can’t be fixed at least by me. This is ridiculous I paid what I think is a lot for a paper towel holder just to fall apart. I don’t usually write reviews but I’m so ticked off over this I decided to write one to warn everyone DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK.

I’ll start with the “bad.” For a paper towel dispenser it is “loud.” I’d compare it to peddling a 10 speed bike backwards.
…though if you’re only pulling off one or two pieces it only clicks a couple times so not noisy at all in my opinion.
The good wwwwaaaaaaay out weights any bad from clicking. Very easy to use one handed, doesn’t tip, or move just clicks slowly then just pull down at a slight angle allows for a perfect tear. Some times it’s the small things in life. 🙂
I picked this one up as I was planning on moving my older one which was okay out to my RV. Now Im seriously thinking about donating the old one to goodwill and picking up another one of these.

J’avais lu les commentaires, dont plusieurs mentionnaient qu’il était arrivé en très mauvais état. Eh bien, le mien aussi! La base était tout égratignée et il y avait deux grosses bosses. Pourtant, la boîte était en excellent état… Évidemment, je l’ai retourné, et je n’en veux pas d’autre en échange pour ne pas avoir le même problème. Dommage, parce que ça semblait un bon produit. Mais payer 36$ pour un dévidoir qui semble être tombé du 8e étage, non merci!

I ordered it once and it came dented and scratched. The second time it was also dented and scratched (insufficient shipping packaging). Most importantly, the ratchet system was too tight so it was hard to pull a towel off with one hand. It also moved the base when I tried to tear the towel.

Used this at an AirBnB and knew I had to get it for my own kitchen. Perfect for keeping paper towel near the sink so that the roll doesn’t fall in and get wet, and it makes those half-sheet rolls actually environmentally useful. So simple and effective!

 the paper towel holder is heavy duty, quality made. this is the 2nd one we ordered. 1st one had a couple dents in the stainless steel base so we relegated that one to the master bath. it worked beautifully, so we ordered another for the kitchen. the 2nd one is more stiff and will tip before turning much of the time, so it’s almost a stationary holder. but no dents this time. I guess it’s a gamble whether you’ll get one that turns correctly, but still worth the money in my opinion. very nice aesthetics as well.

We purchased 2 different paper towel holders at the same time. This one is be best by far. It is sturdy and allows you to rip the paper towel from the roll without having to touch the roll or stand. When the roll gets down to 1/4 or so left, it gets tricky but it still doable. Definitely recommend and am planning to purchase another one.

I like the look but it arrived broken on the bottom but that was just cosmetic and you couldn’t see it so that was OK but now it is coming loose And I don’t know anybody who has a 12 inch long screwdriver to get all the way down the tube to Tighten it

Finally a paper towel dispenser that actually WORKS. Thankfully the under the counter towel holder broke and I went on a search. Saw those with the finger to hold the end of the towel in place, but they are problematic as well. Then I saw this dispenser, so thought we would give it a try and WOW, are we pleased that we did. The unit is not only sturdy and stays in place, the towel dispensing is a very cleaver and creative design using the ratcheting system in the base. The ratcheting system keeps enough tension on the towel roll, so you can take what you need and quickly. The bonus is that there is NO extra towels that spin off when you tear down on the towels you need. Unsure what other people are complaining about regarding the ratcheting mechanism being loud as that is definitely not the case. This is a great product and can be used on the kitchen counter or on a kitchen center island, heck, even in the work shop it would have great benefit.
