Item as described. I really like the canister style design and it worked fine on delivery. I did not rate durability because I’d expect this item to last several years and obviously I cannot rate after delivery. Side note: there is a hole for a lanyard/cord so if you want to use it you’ll need to provide your own. Not a negative just a comment for prospective buyers.

I’m an aggressive man who has to have everything looking tough such as my alienware, Dell and panasonic toughbook laptops, 2019 ZR1 black convertible corvette, black leather jackets, AR-15 rifle, glock pistols, knives, daggers badboy is what im described as, this USB has to match my look and taste, that’s why im willing to pay high for looks, I’m constantly using the USB from laptop to laptop and for a 3.0 it’s working good and fast 😎

This kind of product makes it possible to work between computers from place to place. It’s fast, durable, and has plenty of work space even for video. Just encrypt your sensitive data appropriately and take it with you. No need to carry a computer laptop and all of its accessories.

Seems bomb proof so far, notably less rugged once opened however. Keep it closed up and it will survive anything!

I’ve been buying the Survivor series for over a decade. A dedicated fan. I have 6 of these in “32 GB” to “256 GB” (Actual 230 GB”*)
My only wish is that the USB drives would come formatted as NTFS. I save data files, not video so I am a bit odd.

*The storage industry agreed to “go decimal” years ago, corrupting the meaning of Megabyte, Gigabyte but I refuse to accept the dictates of marketing hacks. 1 GB = 2^30 bytes, NOT 10^9 bytes.

Just have to watch the threaded area of the casing doesn’t get squashed so that it is out-of-round. Becomes difficult to close after that happens. Otherwise, this is one of the most well protected thumb-drives on the market.

We all know that when you have a hard drive it holds slightly less than the actual stated amount advertised due to the way the data is written, but this USB stick is taking the biscuit !!!!

256 GB USB Stick but only is showing 230 GB’s when its been reformatted to NTFS – So actually its only holding approx 247 GB’s. Where are the rest of the 8.4 GB’s gone??? That’s nearly 2 DVD’s worth of Data missing!

This USB is bent for no reason! It was used very carefully on a laptop, not forced into a port, yet when I removed it – it was bent!! This was too expensive to end up bent like that!! I take care of my things and I use everything with care, this is unacceptable!!! Now Im worried about it’s future performance and function, this is truly unacceptable. It’s not some cheap USB from WALMART!! It should not be flimsy!!!

I liked them better when they came with a neck-chain .. but over-all, they are the best value I have found and have yet to have any of the negative experiences that others have reported. Maybe, bugs were fixed before I made purchases.

If you’re like me and kind of rough on things, this is a must buy. It is very well built. I was going to put it on my keyring but I didn’t want to scratch it. I have no doubt that it could of took the abuse though. I use it almost daily to work on a project at the house and on the go on my laptop.

I wish it didn’t look as good so I could put it on my keyring but I opened it up and decided I didn’t want to get it scratched. That would be the only “bad” thing, if you can call it that, to say about it. That it looks too good.

I’m following up with my original review (below), because I recently dropped my drive onto the floor. The sound of loose parts inside the cylinder was not reassuring. The drive would no longer come up when inserted into a computer. I carefully opened the drive and found that there was a very tiny black component which had fallen off the circuit board. It looked somewhat like those other black square components (see photos). I was panicking because I had just used this drive to back up my work before wiping my laptop. Years of family photos, important immigration documents and many other irreplaceable items were now locked inside the memory chip. To make matters worse, I’m in living in a foreign country and deciding who to trust with my important information made fixing the drive a very risky proposition, but since I was up against a deadline with one of my projects, I decided to try to fix it. Several stores wouldn’t touch it, but one guy at a cellphone repair kiosk added a small blob of solder to join the leads where the component used to be. After arriving at my office, I carefully plugged it in to my computer and thankfully, the contents showed up, but the drive was very unstable. It took many attempts to download my data because the drive would frequently disconnect. I’m guessing the missing component was either a capacitor or a resistor.

Now I’m revising my score to two stars, because a simple one meter drop to a concrete floor while still sealed in the protective cylinder shouldn’t have killed my drive. I really wanted to like this drive, but the reason I bought it over other choices is because I really needed it to be strong and reliable. Now it’s a brick. Perhaps if I have time, I’ll send it back to Corsair so they can figure out how to improve the design.

The Corsair Flash Survivor Stealth 256GB USB 3.0 is very nicely made. I bought it to augment the 64GB version that I bought five years ago. The speed is very good and the construction is excellent. I’m an ESL teacher. The survivor that I bought five years ago gets nearly daily use in Chinese classrooms on all kinds of old clunker computers and it has never let me down. The new stealth is great, but for my application, I would prefer it to be a bright color that is harder to ignore or leave behind. I would also prefer the lanyard attachment on the shell instead (like the old one) because it’s my way of reminding myself that it’s in use. The preferable method is to unscrew the drive and leave the shell hanging out. I never put the shell back in the pocket or bag unless I screw the drive back inside, but the new one has the lanyard on the drive which means I have to leave the shell loose on the desk.

Using Linux Ubuntu and Gparted partition editor, I divided to the drive to have the first partition very large and then I put a small 10GB partition on the end. In Windows, the first partition with all of my files shows up, but not the second partition. But if I interrupt the boot sequence, I can boot into Ubuntu 15.10 which has been installed on the second partition and then Ubuntu will also show the first partition with all of my files.

    Pros:
    Tough construction
    Fast performance
    Lanyard attachment
    Able to be partitioned

    Cons:
Lanyard attached to the drive, instead of the shell
Black color makes it easy to lose.

Go ahead and buy this product. You won’t be disappointed.

I bought this as a last ditch backup in case the house burned down, I hoped it would survive. Well, I have not had to test that.

But in what I consider normal use. Plugging it in once a month to update the files. It is not to be recommended. I bought this in May 2016, and as I write in Feb 2018, it is coming apart. when I remove it from the USB socket, the housing comes away and the internals, with the USB socket and PCB on which the memory resides, remains plugged in.

It obviously suffers from poor manufacture.
