UPDATE: Dropping to 3 stars. After being installed for a while, battery has stopped charging efficiently using the solar panel. I barely accessed the camera and the battery has lost percentage while getting 6 hours of sunlight daily. Battery life doesn’t come close to matching the specs as stated by Eufy. Video also freezes and causes app to crash when putting live view into landscape.
Eufy has some work to do software wise to make this camera good. Really disappointed how buggy the camera has become after only being installed a short while.
Hopefully with some software updates to the camera and app things will improve since I’m stuck with the camera and you cannot return it which is another thing to be aware of if you’re looking to purchase.
Been waiting a while for this camera from eufy. Resolution is excellent and solar charging works great spot on notifications with great detection. Spot lights work really well at night.
Be sure to follow the mounting instructions.
I will update this review after having it installed so far it’s been excellent, well done eufy!
Only con is the solar power manager option has disappeared from the app not sure as to why eufy please re add this!

I was really excited for this camera, wireless with solar panel? what is there not to like… Solar panel works greats, keeps the charge at 90-99 percent But Eufy has disappointed once again with motion detection,i cannot get this POS to notify me when someone triggers the activity zone. Tried messing around with motion settings adjusting the zone and sensitivity level with no luck.
Original plan was to buy a few of this cameras but now considering an alternative.

Wow. After 2 days it crashed. Reinstalled, spotlight flashes on and off without recording video. Change settings and then it constantly recorded every little motion and drained the battery 15% in a day. Then crashed again last night.
Amazon makes you chat to get a refund which is infuriating. Then does not send you email confirmation of said refund. They tell you keep the piece of junk. I have 4 outdoor eufy cams and never had them be junk like this. DO NOT BUY. Great idea and promises with all the features and solar charging. Extremely poor quality and bad execution

I can never get this camera to work. I either get a, “Unable to play live video”, or “preparing to play”. This a useless piece of garbage. Be aware that this item is not returnable. Spend your money on something else.

This piece of crap is useless. It worked for the first few days and then I started getting this error saying the camera is offline. I can still connect to my wireless network on my phone AND the Ring flood cam that is placed under this piece of crap still works.
Disappointing because this is exactly the solution that I was looking for (would have been ideal if it supported RTSP too)
Don’t waste your money/time. Wait until they fix their problems or get something else.

I must apologize for my negative review on this security camera. When I ordered this the FIRST time and tried to connect to my wi-fi, it would not connect. I called Eufy customer support and we tried everything, and I mean everything to make it work. Customer support told me it is defective and to return it. I bought one at BestBuy and guess what, didn’t work. I tried a third one and didn’t work. I then took this to a friend’s house to give it to him to see if it would connect and guess what. It worked!!! I called customer support again (spoke to a very helpful person) and she checked with an Eufy engineer about the problem. We found out that if a wi-fi password has ANY SPACES (even if they are intentionally there) it will not connect. I changed my wi-fi password and it almost immediately connected! I feel awful about the negative review I left. I erased it and I have to say this is one awesome camera!! I highly recommend!!!

While we have a robust CPI alarm system for the house, I wanted outside motion detection cameras with alerts for our entry areas. After evaluating Ring, Nest, Logitech, & others, I felt like going the route with Eufy was best for me. I didn’t want to deal with wiring & I didn’t want pure battery power so the Eufy solar S40 Seemed like the right choice for us given the amount of sun that our back entry doors get. Glad I went that route.
Instructions were very clear & easy to follow. After the initial 8-hr charge & lots of testing to see where the trigger zones were, the battery only dropped 2%. Once the camera was in the sun the next day, it was at 100% quickly.
It sure seems like this was the right choice for us.
