I received the heated coffee mug on 28-Apr-21. It stopped working on 13-Jun-21. That is a very short lifetime for a very expensive mug. During the short time I used it worked perfectly, keeping my coffee hot for an extended period of time. I was disappointed when it quite working that one morning. An email to Amazon brought a quick response from the seller directing me to email their service department which I did. Never heard back. I held off writing this bad review hoping the seller would straighten out the problem but enough is enough. When the mug was working I had recommended to relatives but now I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

I have both the VSITOO S3 Pro and the Ember 14oz. Here is a comparison and review.
    CAPACITY:
VSITOO says it can hold 360ml which should be 12.2oz but actual measurements show that it can hold just slightly more than the Ember 14oz. It is also bigger physically, and so is it’s charge coaster.

    BUILD QUALITY:
The outside of the S3 Pro feels very similar to the Ember’s ceramic shell. The Ember beats the S3 Pro in that the inside of the Ember is also ceramic coated while the S3 Pro’s is more like an enamel finish.
Both of them have this thin uncomfortable handle.
The Ember charge coaster is all metal (maybe except for the bottom that is covered with a rubber pad). The S3 Pro’s coaster is metal on top and looks and feels like the Ember’s. The bottom is plastic and has this ring texture that makes it difficult to clean.

    POWER:
The S3 Pro coaster uses a USB-C port and I would assume you can use any power supply that is rated “USB PD” (power delivery) that can supply similar amperage (2.1A on the supplied adapter) to power the coaster. The Ember on the other hand, uses it’s own 19V power supply with a barrel connector. Both coasters are always on, meaning even without the mugs resting on them there is 19V at the “pogo” pins you see on the coaster. This means that if you rest a metal object across those pins you’ll cause a short circuit most likely damage the adapter.

    CHARGE CAPACITY:
In regular use, I’ve found the Ember to be able to keep working for almost 2 hours on a full charge keeping my coffee at 140F. In it’s ads, the S3 Pro says it can keep going from 4-8 hours but so far I have yet to see it make it to 2 hours.

    APP:
The Ember app is very basic. You’re supposed to be able to set a color for the LED to identify your mug when there are other Embers around but that function has never worked for me. The LED is always white. The Ember app also never connects to the mug reliably or consistently. I’ve had to delete and reconnect my Ember at least 4 times since I got it. I’ve just given up and just let the mug keep my beverage at whatever temperature it remembers.
The S3 Pro app has a lot of potential. BUT why does a smart mug app need so many permissions??? For it to work, first it needs permission to access phone functions. Then you need to give it your phone number to which it sends a verification code. Then it needs access to media storage and, strangest of all, location! I denied all permissions and it wouldn’t connect to the S3 Pro. Within 24 hours of installing this app I got a text message saying “XEsn acrazygirl.???.*567”. (I replaced some stuff with question marks for safety.) Coincidence? Maybe. But when something that just needs to connect to a mug to tell it what temperature it should be at needs access to so many unrelated functions it makes me very suspicious.
Also, I live in the US and I’m used to having my temperatures in Fahrenheit. I switched the units to F and now the scale switched from increments of 5 deg Celsius to increments of 9 deg Fahrenheit. Yes, they are regular increments but they seem arbitrary on first glance. Why not just use 5 degree increments in both C and F?

    CONCLUSION:
Despite the build quality of the S3 Pro’s coaster, it’s inner coating, and lackluster charge capacity, I think I’ll be using it more. That means it’ll be the mug I leave at the office because I’m there more than I’m home. If I ever travel, the S3 Pro will be what I take with me. The fact that you can adjust the temperature on the mug itself without having to open an app is a big plus. (I’ve uninstalled the VSITOO app.) At a cost of $30 less than the Ember I think this is a great value and something I should’ve given as presents last Christmas instead of the Ember.

UPDATE: 10 months later, my S3 Pro is completely dead. The LED started blinking red and then it stopped. Now it no longer turns on. I was hoping it would come back to life if I left it to discharge completely before recharging it but it no longer charges. I used the S3 Pro and the Ember about the same duration every day and the Ember still works. I’ll update this review again when the Ember dies.

It seemed to be the perfect mug to keep your tea hot for more than an hour but unfortunately, it stopped working after two weeks of daily use. I have suspicion that the mug is not really waterproof. When the mug was placed on the saucer for charging I noticed some rusty water accumulation under the power button.

Update: I changed my one-star rating to a five-star rating because of Vsitoo’s excellent customer service. Visitoo really stands behind their product. Their customer service immediately contacted me and requested detail about the problem I experienced with my mug. I was told that this particular issue was identified by their technical team and has been resolved. Within days, I received a new mug.

Stopped working after two months. Of course the window to return it expired a week ago.>>>>>>>>Fast forward, the customer service was awesome. Very communicative and on top of the issues I had. They sent me a new device within a day or two. Nicely done! Will recommend.

Very good mug warmer and works well, but remember DON’T put your smart phone on the charging coaster! Upon opening up this new gadget, I playfully wanted to see if the coaster could be used as a qi charger (the answer is no). While it had no effect on the Samsung phone, it almost killed my LG phone. I put the LG phone on the coaster for <3 seconds, and my phone lost all signs of life after that. It went off completely and wouldn't power on no matter what buttons I pressed and how many times I tried. I tried to power it back on by connecting it to a charging cable but in vain. I almost thought the LG phone was completely destroyed until I tried pressing the factory reset button and alas it finally came back alive. I don't know how other brands of phones might react to the coaster coz obviously I wouldn't risk my iPhone after this "near-death" incident. So warnings to everyone: don't put your smart phones on the coaster while it's plugged in.
The product itself is great, but I’d have given it 5 stars had the App worked better. First off, the Android version of the App is not exactly the same as the iOS version. I initially tried to install it on my Android phone (and yes, some Chinese box will pop out), but the moment it asked for access to my camera, photos, etc, I stopped and uninstalled it. I don’t understand why the App needs to be so invasive for a task as simple as controlling the temperature of a mug?! The iOS version didn’t ask for any of that (you could choose to give permission — or not), so I installed it on my iPhone instead, and the App works fine. If you have trouble connecting to the device (i.e. your mug), try power the mug off completely (button at the bottom of the mug) and switching it on again and the issue should be resolved. Suggest the App development team to improve the functionalities in the “profile” tab of the App though. The “message” function is a bridge to nowhere as it just opens up a blank tab that you can’t do anything about or type anything in there. The “Feedback” tab is no better. After spending my time typing up in the “description” box, it mandates (I repeat: MANDATES!) you to upload a picture from either the camera or your photo album — in Chinese (even though I chose English in my settings for this App). So obviously you’d need to give it access to your camera and/or album before you can proceed further. And then it asks for your purchase channel, which only offers 2 options: Amazon China or Others. I went along with all these steps that didn’t make sense (including attaching a picture), just to find out I couldn’t “submit” the feedback. Total waste of time.
